PACKING IT IN: REAL DESIGNER LUGGAGE
To celebrate its twelfth anniversary, the A+D Architecture and Design Museum in Los Angeles is embarking on its own journey commissioning one-of-a-kind carry-ons (everything from suitcases to jetpacks, as long as they conform to TSA size regulations) from a host of architects, designers, and artists. The pieces—from such design-world luminaries as Hodgett and Fung, Steven Ehrlich, Lorcan O’Herliny, and Karim Rashid will be featured in a runway show at the museum’s annual fundraiser, this year entitled Celebrate: The Journey on May 11 and then auctioned off. Though at press time, only drawings were available, the project shows great promise for both invention and entertainment.aplusd.org
