Basel Switzerland experienced an exciting five days of design with the eighth edition of Design Basel. From June 11-16, 2013 nearly fifty galleries from fourteen different countries presented museum quality work from the last five centuries of design.

This year Basel was housed in the newly completed Herzog & de Meuron designed metal latticed building. The exciting architecture of the building certainly reflected the revolutionary work found inside.

Galerie Patrick Seguin/ Paris

This year Galerie Patrick Seguin presented Jean Prouvé’s innovative low budget housing solution of 1954 Paris. In response to the overwhelming numbers of homeless individuals, Prouvé turned to design for a solution. Commissioned by Abbé Pierre, Provué designed a fully equipped 50 meter home on Quai Alexandre III, which could be fully assembled in only seven hours. The public viewed the quickly constructed homes to be too revolutionary for the times, which ultimately led to the projects dismissal. Fortunately, Galeirie Patrick Seguin has revitalized the housing prototype for Design Basel 2013.
