Beth Dunlop and Dennis Miller discuss Wendell Castle

Wendell Castle, father of the art furniture movement, joins in a conversation with fellow design professionals to discuss the collectability of his works held in celebration of his 80th birthday. Moderated by Beth Dunlop, editor in chief of MODERN magazine and hosted by contemporary furniture dealer Dennis Miller, the panel brings together interior designer Carl D’Aquino, historian and curator Ronald Labaco of the Museum of Art and Design and auctioneer David Rago of Rago Arts and Auction Center to review and celebrate Castle’s innovative career. The panel takes place on June 5^th at the Dennis Miller Showroom as part of New York Design Center’s “Legends on 12” series.

Born in 1932 in Kansas, Wendell Castle is a founding member of the American craft and art furniture movements. His unconventionally sculptural furniture designs challenge the distinction between high art and craft. His work has been included in the collections of renowned institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts, the Smithsonian and the White House. In 2007, he was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Design by the Brooklyn Museum.
